Artist - Photographic Reconstruction
When one views Arthur Jacob's works, it is evident that these images are not merely photographs but paintings done using modern technology. His works are not random images culled from the recesses of someone's computer, but thoughtful and thought provoking works of art. Upon further inspection one is reminded of the Abstract Expressionist artists such as Kadinsky and Rothko. Like these artists, Jacob is fiercely intent on portraying the psychic self-expression he finds within the piece.
Harold Rosenberg defines the Abstract Expressionists canvas as an "arena to act in." Jacob, by allowing the viewer the knowledge of the subject, also invites us to act in that arena; to explore the infinite possibilities that each abstraction presents. The use of color, form and balance only make the subject more appealing and reveal much about the artist himself. Color depicts emotion and lines, that are either gently wavy or sharply spiked and become attitude in Jacob's work. Using technology as his paint and brush, his work emerges from the vast wasteland of cyber-space and gives hope that man's creativity can be redirected and utilized in a technological world.
Jacob comments about his work by saying, "I title each piece using the name of the real life object so that the viewer is drawn into the image to explore the infinite possibilities of the photographic reconstruction and then to imagine and define what that reality is. Thus, the audience becomes an active part of the process of the reconstruction; if only in their minds' eye."
Arthur Jacob has been fortunate enough to have his works collected by several collectors in the United States. In addition to private collections, Arthur Jacob's works are exhibited in corporate and organizational settings. He also works closely with interior designers to provide their clients with commissioned original art. Jacob has had several exhibitions in Nevada and is now beginning to be shown on the southern coast of Oregon. Interest in Jacob's work has started to gain national recognition with the recent comments by Ed McCormack, Managing Editor of Gallery & Studio Magazine, New York, New York," Arthur Jacob tests the limits of photography, deconstructing reality in swirling patterns and a spectrum of glowing colors that render the known world mysteriously new." In addition, Arthur was recently invited by an international jury to exhibit at the Biennale Internazionale Dell'Arte Contemporanea, in Florence, Italy, December, 2007.
